Primary care physicians spend considerable shares of their working hours performing clerical duties such as writing and reading patient records. As health records grow in length over the course of the patient’s lifetime, locating relevant case-related information can become difficult and time consuming. To reduce this burden, automatic document summarization can allow them to quickly catch up with the medical history of a patient while reducing the risk of missing critical pieces of information. This new paradigm has the potential to significantly reduce physician work load.
